A blog (abbreviated form of Web Log) is a type of website that is customized to achieve a particular objective. Blogs are usually maintained by individuals. It is a space where an individual can share their ideas, thoughts and videos .These blogs are usually interactive and open to the public, allowing them to comment or message on the content of the blog. Most blogs provide commentary or news or solid opinions on a particular subject. A typical blog combines text, images, links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). The modern blog can be called a published online diary, where people write about their personal lives. Blogging was not popular until relatively recently; it is only since 2004 that the role of blogs became increasingly main stream, as political consultants, news services, and candidates began using them as tools for outreach and opinion forming.

The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read. Blogging can have a sentimental quality and directly appeals to the readers' sensibilities. Some sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family, and are much faster than emailing or writing. But, to have your own blog is a sense of pride and not something everyone has. You can also have personal blog with a commercial use by displaying advertisements. There are people who blog every day and make a business out of it by updating it with new and relevant information that its readers typically lap up.
A blog can be private or for business purpose. Blogs can be used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation, or externally, for marketing, branding or public relations. Blogs are great promotional platforms and often help sell a product instantaneously if the content is of great quality. Most companies have a corporate blog where updates about their business and people are posted.
