What's It All About?

LinkedIn is a social networking site that is considered as one of the world’s top popular social networking spaces that has raised the world of professional networking to an all-new level. LinkedIn acts as a link between companies and helps in exchanging essential information on a virtual platform without having to meet people face to face. LinkedIn is cost and time effective; it helps widen knowledge about specific industries; it helps understand the nature of a business to find out if there could be a potential connection between two business entities and so on. There are close to 200 million users of this website today across two hundred countries.

LinkedIn allows users to search for companies they may be interested to work for by just typing the name of a given company in the search box. On doing this, a complete profile about the company is displayed. These may include the ratio of female to male employees, the percentage of the most common titles/positions held within the company, the location of the company's headquarters and offices, or a list of present and former employees and the vacancies available. In July 2011, LinkedIn launched a new feature allowing companies to include an "Apply with LinkedIn" button on job listing pages. The new plugin will allow potential employees to apply for positions using their LinkedIn profiles as resumes. All applications will also be saved under a "Saved Jobs" tab. It is different from most other websites in the niche market and has many a great corporate biggies as its members. Basic membership at LinkedIn in free of cost and it offers a detailed profile setup (this is basically a digital resume and it consists of education, skills, website links, work history and so on - much more detail when compared to any other social networking website.

The Power of Professional Networking

Networking is key to LinkedIn, and this capability holds high value for the average career-oriented individual. Bosses have extended their profile checks to the candidate’s Facebook, MySpace or LinkedIn profiles before making a hiring decision. This is probably the best reason why profiles on social networking websites - especially personal ones - should be kept private, since an employer is not likely to be highly impressed to see how much partying a candidate does! LinkedIn is extremely useful job tool, as it lists all your achievements and work history in detail and presents a very professional picture to a prospective employer.
